Monthly Film Series – Les Misérables
September 22, 2018 @ 6:45 pm - 9:30 pm
Les Misérables is based on the monumental 1862 novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. It is set in France during the early 19th century and tells the story of former prisoner Jean Valjean [Hugh Jackman] who, while being hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert [Russell Crowe] after breaking parole, becomes a father figure to Cosette, the daughter of the deceased factory worker Fantine.
Les Misérables recounts a familiar, reassuring story of oppression, liberation and redemption, complete with period costumes and tear-yanking songs. The movie is an adaptation of the global stage sensation that has been seen by 70 million people in 51 countries and 22 languages around the world. It includes all but two of the songs from the original stage production.
