St. Mark’s Gospel – A solo performance by Alec McCowen St. Mark’s Gospel is a powerful one-person dramatic recitation of the King James version of this gospel with minimal staging developed and performed by the great English actor Alex McCowen. First produced in 1977 at University Theatre in Newcastle, England, St. Mark’s Gospel became a theatrical marvel performed in London, on Broadway, and globally.
Mr. McCowen, who recites the entire text of the Gospel from memory in this presentation, was nominated for a Tony Award in 1979 for his impressive work.
This DVD is a recording of a live theatre production of St. Mark’s Gospel during its 1990 revival in New York lauded by The New York Times “a performance as revelation” and “a one-man play, in which the actor becomes a conduit of genius.”
But words alone do not describe the power, glory, and compassion of this performance. St. Mark’s Gospel vividly presents the life of one who changed the world, Christ Jesus, presented in an inspiring and unforgettable way by renowned actor Alec McCowen.
